Since you're a student and not a pro, I'd stick close to a low/reasonable type amount, like $20/hour. Or do a flat-fee arrangement like $40 to come up with one they like. What's cool is you're doing more than just gaining experience - you're developing a portfolio and also good references for how you work. But people will not pay a student the same kind of rate they pay a pro, as I'm sure you realize. Good luck with this! How much should I charge for Designing Wedding announcements?
$60 an hour.
I think this is a pretty much play by ear thing because are several variables on what people want plus variables from one couple to another what they can afford plus what they think is a reasonable charge which again would likely differ from one couple to another. As a rule of thumb I would probably charge the cost of materials plus say $11/hr for my time I don't think anybody would argue with that. You could probably go even higher than that.
You need to figure out an hourly rate that encompasses the initial consultation, follow up consultation and/or questions and the actual design time.
In addition, don't forget to take into account any advertising you may do and software you may need to purchase or upgrade. All this needs to be taken into account when you are figuring out your pricing.
You may want to call around to places in your area to see what others charge to give you a starting point (make sure to inquire everything their service/price includes so you can compare accurately).
