How can I get a better connection to my xbox live with a belkin router?
I have a Belkin F5D8230-4 router, but my NAT is always moderate and I lag in every game I play. I am using an ethernet cable to connect my xbox 360 directly to my router (less than 100 meters away). The steps vary depending on your model. Setting up wireless is actually easy. You just right click the icons with 2 monitor screens in the lower right hand corner of your screen, and then click on Connect to a Network. The rest is straight forward from there.
The problems is setting up the security. This is the reason why I frown against wireless. Well that and the fact that there might be dead spots in your home and interference is also an issue.
I strongly recommend powerline. It won't be the cheapest option, but it is definitely the most reliable option. Like everything, nothing is 100% reliable, but powerline does not have the problems wireless has. Older powerling technologies weren't that good, but they have just about perfected them. There's a reason why the internet is called the ';information superhighway,'; and that's because the internet functions pretty much like a set of highways. Your 100mbps connection from your computer to your router is like a driveway with a 11500 KB/sec speed limit. Then, your cable connection is basically like a narrow highway with approximately 2000 KB/sec speed limit (depending on your provider), but because it's shared, it almost always is in a state of a traffic jam; how bad depends on the time. Then, the server has its own driveway, and just like an inadequately designed parking lot, those may jam too.

I am seriously thinking of getting a live in vehicle, so there would be no chance of getting my own connection or router. If I were to get a laptop with a network card then, in an urban area (UK) How much connection would I be able to pick up? What percentage of people leave their networks unprotected? What sort of range do networks have?
